It appears someone has been reviewing the VHF radio qualifications, to suit the recreational boating regulations, only taken more than a decade. Are you a boater who uses a VHF marine radio in Australian Territorial Waters (within 12 nautical miles of the coast)? You’ll soon be able to apply for a more appropriate marine radio qualification—the .Australian Waters Qualification (AWQ). more here:

Magnetic Loop or Small Transmitting Loop antennas are nothing new, however there seems to be an increased interest in these highly misunderstood antennas. Some seek these antennas out of necessity due to their local housing restrictions, or because they don’t have the area available for larger, more conventional antennas and are therefor limited by size restrictions, others know of their true ability. Do they work, ABSOLUTELY, do they work well, ABSOLUTELY. Whether you have one, want to build one, or are just interested in learning more details about these small wonders, this group is for you. Dateline 4/8/2015 “ACMA Shuts Down”

CMA licensing shut-down announced

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has announced that it will suspend all apparatus licence processing from Friday August 14 to Tuesday September 1, to replace its licensing and frequency processing system. The ACMA in announcing this two week closure, acknowledges the need to bring a more efficient process to Apparatus licences, which are widely used, including by the Amateur Service.
